Every member of Lux Collaborative contributes to the life of the studio, bringing a distinct voice that informs how we think, design, and evolve.
Our People
Lux Collaborative is sustained by the creativity, knowledge, relationships, and labor of the people who make our practice possible.
At Lux Collaborative, equity means cultivating a culture in which participation is shared rather than concentrated, authorship is recognized rather than obscured, and people have meaningful opportunities to grow into the ownership and stewardship of the company.
Shared ownership does not eliminate differences in role, responsibility, or authority. It creates a structure through which those differences can coexist with a culture of accountability committed to the quality of our work, the strength of our relationships, and the lasting impact we have on the places we shape through light.

What Guides Us
These values shape every relationship we cultivate, every project we undertake, and the worker-owned practice we are building together.
Care for people, place, and the living world.
Curiosity to ask better questions before searching for answers.
Creativity to imagine thoughtful, rigorous, and resonant design possibilities.
Cooperation to bring distinct perspectives together around a shared purpose and create value that extends beyond ourselves.
Together, these values guide our commitment to cross-disciplinary collaboration and help us develop insightful, inspired ideas that honor the human experience and contribute to a more equitable future.
The World We Share
Every design decision participates in building a better world.
Every project offers an opportunity to shape part of the world we share. A world that is both immediate and interconnected. Every project belongs somewhere, every place exists within a larger living system, and every person is connected to something beyond themselves.
We see a world where design excellence, ecological responsibility, cooperation, and economic sustainability reinforce rather than compete with one another.
To us, a better world is built through the quality of the relationships we reveal and strengthen through light and darkness.
Cooperative Ownership
Every design decision participates in building a better world.
Lux Collaborative opened its doors in 2022 as a small design partnership. By the end of 2024, founding member Kyle McGahan, then the company’s sole owner, had initiated its reorganization as a worker-owned cooperative, reflecting a deliberate and future-oriented decision to align the firm’s ownership and governance with its values.
Worker ownership is an extension of our design philosophy and a way of recognizing the people whose contributions sustain the studio and shape its purpose, culture, relationships, and future.
All eligible employees who contribute their labor, care, curiosity, and creativity have a pathway to ownership, though becoming a worker-owner is not required. Together, our worker-owners elect a representative board of directors, and participate in significant decisions affecting the company. The board guides the studio’s long-term direction, while designated leaders and project teams manage its day-to-day work.
Ownership does not mean that every role or responsibility is the same or equal. It means that authority is accountable, information is shared with greater transparency, and the value created through collective effort can be shared more equitably among those who help create it.
By bringing ownership, participation, and stewardship into closer relationship, we seek to build a more engaged, resilient, and accountable practice for our clients, collaborators, and one another.
